X MESSAGE FROM CAFOD in Southwark

Did you know that Church teaching says that we should not only support those in poverty but also tackle the root causes of poverty?

Pope Benedict XVI said that “Love — caritas — is an extraordinary force which leads people to opt for courageous and generous engagement in the field of justice and peace.” For decades CAFOD has spoken out against injustice. To find out more and get involved in tackling the root causes of poverty, please go to cafod.org.uk/latestcampaigns

X ST JOSEPH’S, CHERITON – a working team is studying and considering all the options to enable us to open safely at St Joseph’s for Mass. The health and safety of parishioners and participants at anything that is done at St Joseph’s Church is taken seriously and is a priority.

X COLLECTION – last week was a total of £610.41 for the offertory and £225.67 for the second collection for the Parish Building Funds.  Thank you for your generosity.

X WORLD COMMUNICATIONS DAY - this year’s World Communications Day is celebrated this Sunday, 21 May 2023.  The Theme comes from Ephesians 4:15, Speaking with the heart-‘The truth in love’. In his message to mark the day, Pope  Francis stresses the need to listen before speaking truth with a pure heart to “see beyond appearances and overcome the vague din which, in the field of information, does not help us discern in the complicated world in which we live”.

The Holy Father, warning against indifference and indignation, hails the example of the great Doctor of the Church, St Francis de Sales, in particular his commitment to patient, heartfelt dialogue. A gifted theologian, his phrase ‘heart speak to heart’ inspired many, none more so than the recently canonised Saint John Henry Newman, who chose the phrase as his cardinalatial motto ‘Cor ad cor loquitur’. Catholics in England and Wales will remember with affection that ‘Heart speak unto heart’ was also the theme for Pope  Benedict XVI’s historic visit to the UK in 2010. You will find information, resources, prayers and more on the Bishop’s Conference website:
