LENT
ASH
WEDNESDAY
There will be three masses on Ash Wednesday
- with the Imposition of Ashes - 9.00am
at St Joseph’s, 10.00am at OLHoC, and again at OLHoC at 7.30pm. This year Ash
Wednesday falls on February 14th, so
– as I wrote last week – there’s no St Valentine’s Day this year! Forget the
pancakes - do all the hearts and flowers on Shrove Tuesday!
STATIONS
OF THE CROSS
Every Friday in Lent we
shall follow the Stations of the Cross, at 9.15am at OLHoC and at 11.00am at St
Joseph’s. Following the Stations every Friday is a good, simple, penitential
devotion to adopt as we prepare to enter sacramentally and liturgically into
the heart of the Paschal Mystery at Easter.
THE LENTEN STUDY AND PRAYER LUNCH
will be
led by Fr Jamie every subsequent Wednesday in Lent, following the pattern that
worked so well in October with Laudato
Si’ – a 12.30pm start with a light lunch of soup and bread (donations to
Embrace the Middle East) and finish by 1.30pm. The subject will be THE LETTER
OF ST JAMES – which emphasizes the importance of actions along with faith in
the practice of the Christian life. Dates: Wednesday, February 21st to
Wednesday, March 21st.
AT MASS IN LENT
There’s no
music – no playing of the organ - before or after Mass. This makes Lent a good
time to practice getting ready for the Liturgy by PRAYING IN SILENCE. The whole
point of Lent is getting ready for Easter, and this can remind us that every
Mass is a “little Easter,” and every “little Easter” requires its “little
Lent.” This is easily forgotten!
