LENT - Lent is a 40-day fast — a reference to the time Jesus spent being tempted in the desert. It’s a time when we can prepare our hearts for the remembrance of Christ’s death. Our observance of Lent culminates in the solemn celebrations of Holy Week when on Palm Sunday we follow Christ from his triumphant entrance into Jerusalem to the foot of the Cross as sorrowful bystanders to His Passion, before rolling back the stone of the empty tomb and the joy of the Resurrection. The six-week period, excluding Sundays, is dedicated to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving in preparation for this great celebration of Christ’s Paschal Mystery in the Easter Triduum._______________________
STATIONS OF THE CROSS – during Lent our parish can follow the
Stations of the Cross – this week it is at 12 noon on Wednesday at Our Lady,
Help of Christians and 12 noon on Friday at St Joseph’s.
_______________________
PRAYERS – please pray for the repose of the soul of Sr Bridget Milligan, Martha Bennett-Blowes, Fr Richard Diala, Fr Paul Sanders, and Frank McSwiggan who all died recently.
Let us pray for
Shaun Kelly, Rogelio
Custodio, Doreen Smye, Alan Wainwright, Stephen Cole, Shaun
Taylor and Maria Finch and all
whose anniversaries fall at this time.
_______________________
OFFETORY AND
FINANCE – last
week’s collection (excluding standing orders) was £728.10 and the final sum for
the collection for the Cafod Lent Family Fast Day was £257.50. Today there will
be a second collection for the Easter Flowers. THANK YOU for your continued generosity.
_______________________
GIFT AID – If you would like to join the Parish Gift Aid scheme, whereby we get an additional 25% of your donations from the Government, then please contact the parish office or speak to George Pound, our Gift Aid co-ordinator, so we can get you set up.
_______________________
BAPTISMS – the guidance has now changed and the number of people attending a Baptism may be equal to the Covid safe capacity of the building. If you would like to arrange a Baptism after Lent, please contact the Parish Office.

POPE FRANCIS’ PRAYER INTENTION FOR MARCH: Sacrament of Reconciliation. ‘Let us pray that we may experience the sacrament of reconciliation with renewed depth, to taste the infinite mercy of God’.

EASTER FLOWERS – At the Vigil on Easter Eve, we come into the church plunged in darkness, but fragrant with flowers, their scent reminiscent of the Lord’s “bursting from the spicèd tomb” (v2, St Patrick’s Breastplate), and promising visual splendour to be revealed as we sing Gloria in Excelsis.
The Flower Ladies at both churches deserve our serious and heartfelt thanks for their artistry, their dedication and their hard work in making our sacred space so lovely for us all and for the celebration of the Risen Lord. ALL OF US, though, can play our part in this work by giving generously to the Second Collection today, which is to raise money for the purchase of flowers for Easter in both our churches.
If
you miss the opportunity to give some money today, you can put a donation in an
envelope marked “Easter Flowers” through the Parish Office letterbox at the
Presbytery at Our Lady Help of Christians at 41 Guildhall Street.
