WINTER SHELTER UPDATE (1st April 2021) – Yesterday marked the end of this season’s Winter Shelter for the homeless, run by the Rainbow Centre on behalf of Churches Together in Folkestone.  Our parish covered provision of meals on Wednesdays for the 18 weeks of the Shelter.  Our guests were put up in B&Bs, thanks to government funding.  Provision was made for 10 guests (latterly 9) and the Rainbow Centre is working with 4 on finding more permanent accommodation, whilst 5 need further support to address their needs.  Additional government funding means their temporary accommodation is now secure for another 3 months.

The pandemic meant a much reduced involvement of volunteers this season but our 12 cooks and delivery team worked quietly and efficiently to provide nutritious meals, all at the cooks’ expense with no claims for reimbursement!

As with so much else surrounding Covid, homeless provision nationally poses major questions; please pray that, as a society, we may find the determination and funding to address the issue in a just and compassionate manner.

Sadly, we bid farewell to our Winter Shelter manager for the past few years, Jana Ernest.  We wish her well as she takes on a new role in Crisis, the national homelessness charity.  Her experience locally will stand her in good stead. And the final word must be one of heartfelt thanks to our volunteers who proved such a willing and capable team and with whom it was such a joy to work!

Liz Willis and John Philpott (Parish Winter Shelter venue co-ordinators)

FINALLY, A VERY HAPPY EASTER TO ALL! AND A VERY BIG THANK YOU to everyone who helped prepare the parish churches for Palm Sunday, the Easter Triduum and Easter Sunday. Firstly, the flower ladies for their amazing devotion to the task of decorating the church and making everything look so splendid. Secondly, to the choir and our organist, Michael Woolley, for all their hard work at a time when everyone else was unable to play a full part due to Covid restrictions on singing. Thirdly, to all the Readers and Stewards who assist in making everything go so smoothly and ensuring that our physical services happen and are broadcast to the nation on our webcast facility. Fourthly, to Sister Ellsy in the Sacristy for the preparation of the Altar and to all the Clergy. Fifthly, thank you to Andrew Gibson for putting up the veils in Our Lady and to George Pound for assisting in taking them down again. Sixthly, to the church cleaners and those who disinfect the church after every service. Finally, thank you Dylan Jeffrey for making sure notices, bulletins, Mass sheets, rotas and more are all in place in our Parish.

QUEEN OF HEAVEN (LATINREGINA CAELI) – this is said throughout Eastertide from Easter Sunday through Pentecost to the seventh Sunday after Easter.

The Regina caeli is also said in place of the Angelus during Eastertide.

Queen of Heaven

V. Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia.
R. For He whom you did merit to bear, alleluia.

V. Has risen, as he said, alleluia.
R. Pray for us to God, alleluia.

V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia.
R. For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.

Let us pray. O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Regina caeli (latin)

V. Regina caeli, laetare, alleluia.
R. Quia quem meruisti portare, alleluia.

V. Resurrexit, sicut dixit, alleluia.
R. Ora pro nobis Deum, alleluia.

V. Gaude et laetare, Virgo Maria, alleluia.
R. Quia surrexit Dominus vere, alleluia.

Oremus. Amen.
