X FIRE WARDEN VOLUNTEER APPEAL – As
part of our Parish Health & Safety obligations we are looking to recruit
volunteers to become ‘Fire Wardens’ to assist and direct Mass attenders in the very
unlikely event of a fire. A short (approx. 1 hour) group training session will
be held at the Church for those who are willing to offer their service for this
very important function. It is hoped that sufficient volunteers will come
forward to enable all weekday and weekend Masses to be covered ideally by two
or more trained individuals, please consider this request, further information
from John Devine (07860457492) or Andre Kleinman (07980579339) Thank you.
X ENROLMENT FOR SACRAMENTAL PROGRAMMES IS NOW
OPENED AND WILL CLOSE ON 30TH SEPTEMBER 2026 – Parents with children in year four and above
are now encouraged to enrol them for their preparations for the celebrations of
First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in 2027.
Young people in year
8 and above are also invited to enrol for their preparations for the
Celebration of Confirmation in May 2027. Please note there are two forms to return for Confirmation Candidates. One for the Candidates and the
other for the sponsors.
Adults who
have not yet celebrated Baptism, Confirmation and First Holy Communion, and
those who were baptised in non-Catholic Churches and are now considering to
join the Catholic Church are also invited to enrol for the RCIA/OCIA programmes
using the forms at the back of the Church and following the instructions given
therein. Thank you.
X PARISH MASS STREAMING – To watch the Mass online, you need to go to the parish website: https://catholic-folkestone.blogspot.com. Once there, click on the Parish Mass Streaming tab. Please note that the Bishops of England and Wales have decreed ‘Virtual viewing’ of Mass does not fulfil the Sunday Obligation. The streaming is for the sick housebound and people in care homes and hospitals.
X FORTHCOMING SECOND
COLLECTIONS IN 2026:
● Supply Cost Supplement: 9th August
● Supply Cost Supplement: 23rd August
X PAYMENT/REMUNARATION TO CLERGY – According
to Canon 281, when a priest/bishop says a Mass in a parish
which is not his own to support or allow the priest of the parish to go on a
retreat, holiday or other pastoral engagements and the like, the standing in
priest/bishop is entitled to what is called a ‘supply cost’ in addition to
travel expenses. This cost is normally determined by the Archdiocesan
authorities. This summer we are organising 4 second collections to supplement
the supply cost.
On a different note, when a deacon/priest/bishop celebrates baptisms, weddings and funerals he is due what is called a Stole Fee. Apart from funerals where the stole fee is fixed by the undertakers in addition to the mileage, the stole fee for baptism and wedding is not normally fixed by the deacon/priest/bishop, there is a guidance from the Archdiocesan authorities that he can use, but priests trust generally on the generosity and kindness of their parishioners. The above are not charges strictly speaking but your support to your ministers who have no salary.
X WEDS COFFEE – Will be
taking a break during August, due to the Children’s Holiday Club. Coffee will
resume again from Sept 2nd. Sunday morning refreshments will be served after
both masses as usual.
