This Lent, your donations to CAFOD’s Family Fast Day Appeal will help families fighting the climate crisis and ensure that our Church network can quickly respond to emergencies, like the recent earthquake in Syria and Turkey. Let us also pray for CAFOD’s development and emergency response work all over the world.

X HELP! - A REQUEST FROM ARCHBISHOP JOHN. Dear friends, I need your help. Good preaching matters to every Catholic. I would like to gather some feedback from people who listen to sermons regularly in a Catholic setting. This is to help those entrusted with the ministry of preaching.

If you are willing to help, please would you be kind enough to answer the following questions – as fully as possible. You can reply by copying and pasting the questions below into an email, then type your personal responses underneath and send the email to homilyhelp@gmail.com

This is a gmail account because it’s easy to set up for this purpose. Someone contacted me to say they are worried it’s a scam. It’s not. If you are concerned you can always send something to me at archbishop@rcaos.org.uk, but the gmail account is easier for me and this project. Or you can post something to Archbishop’s House, 150 St George’s Road, London, SE1 6HX.

All responses will be treated confidentially. Please feel free to share this invitation.

Question 1 - What things do you find most helpful in a homily?

Question 2 - What things do you find least helpful in a homily?

Question 3 - What things would you want a preacher to bear in mind when preparing a homily?

Question 4 - What things would you want a preacher to bear in mind when delivering a homily?

Question 5 - Is there anything else you want to offer to help preachers preach better?

Finally, if you’re willing, could you say if you are:

a. Under 20

b. 20-30

c. 30-50

d. 50+

Thank you so much.

Most Rev John Wilson

Archbishop of Southwark
