X THE NEW LITURGICAL YEAR (B) HAS BEGUN FOR 2022-2023 WITH THE SEASON OF ADVENT. Advent has a twofold character, for it is a time of preparation for the Solemnities of Christmas, in which the First Coming of the Son of God to humanity is remembered, and likewise a time when, by remembrance of this, minds and hearts are led to look forward to Christ’s Second Coming at the end of time.  For these two reasons, Advent is a period of devout and expectant delight. The new lectionary cycle for Sundays will change to (B), the year of Mark.

X THE POPE’S PRAYER INTENTION FOR DECEMBER 2023 IS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES. For the month of December, the Pope’s prayer intention invites us to put an end to discrimination and to change “our mentality, opening ourselves to the abilities and talents of these people who are differently abled, both in society as well as in the life of the Church.”

Let us pray for them with Pope Francis, “that people with disabilities may be at the centre of attention in society, and that institutions offer inclusion programs that enhance their active participation.”

We pray that volunteer non-profit organisations committed to human development find people dedicated to the common good and ceaselessly seek out new paths to international cooperation.”

X  PARISH GIFT SHOP the new 2024 Catholic Diaries with Mass Setting are now available along with a large selection of Christmas cards and gifts. Open every day after Mass.

X THE SICK - We remember all those who are sick and housebound and that they remain in our prayers including Bob Vickery, Canon Luke Smith, Sheelagh (Mary) Crowther, Beulah Blomfield, Veronica Poulton, Margaret Woolley, Leonard Loader and Eugene Molloy.

X  WE PRAY FOR THE RECENTLY DECEASED - Please pray for the repose of the souls of Kathy Goble, Denis Crofts, Michael Shields, Muriel Hilliard, Diane Collins, Sister Sophie and all those who have died recently or whose anniversaries fall at this time including: Jose Scheirs, Alice Stanley (3rd Dec); Raymond Charsley, Gertrude Peat, Charles Birch, Alice Gregory, Florence Tinney, Thomas Noble (4th Dec); Francis O’Brien, John Dobbin, Gertrude Grundy, John Pattarini, Margaret Light, Frederick Buller (5th Dec); Geraldine Loader, Christopher Shields, Marjorie Burdett, Ann Brooks (8th Dec); Gwendoline Hughes, Marie Richmond, Ivy Ives (9th Dec); Dorothy Butkus, Maurice Brivio, Joan Bradwell, Patrick Maher, Margaret Bloe, Philip Brivio (10th Dec).

X  PARISH CHRISTMAS DINNER FOR ALL PARISHIONERS OF OUR LADY AND ST JOSEPH: This will take place next Sunday 10th December at 1.00pm in the OLHoC Hall. There will be a three-course dinner and a raffle. Soft drinks will be available but please bring your own wine/beer. Cost is £15 per person and you will need a ticket.

To get your tickets, please ring Sara Adams on 07864 581191 and leave your name and contact number or see Chi Davies or Anne Berry. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Just to make everybody aware that that this is the only Christmas Dinner organised by the Parish Pastoral and Social Committee, to bring all the parishioners who like this kind of celebration together as one parish. Of course, there are people who claim to be members of the same parish, but when we come to occasions like this, they prefer to go away to organise their own, anyone who does believe in one parish/parish Unity should not fall into such trap.
