X NEXT SUNDAY THE NEW LITURGICAL YEAR (B) WILL BEGIN WITH THE FIRST SUNDAY OF THE SEASON OF ADVENT. Advent has a twofold character, for it is a time of preparation for the Solemnities of Christmas, in which the First Coming of the Son of God to humanity is remembered, and likewise a time when, by remembrance of this, minds and hearts are led to look forward to Christ’s Second Coming at the end of time.  For these two reasons, Advent is a period of devout and expectant delight. The new lectionary cycle for Sundays will change to (B), the year of Mark.

X  CATHOLIC YOUTH SERVICES

World Youth Sunday 2023

This Sunday (26th November) is National Youth Sunday, and the retiring collection will be for the work of the Southwark Catholic Youth Service, which is re-launching several activities in 2024 for those aged 10-35. For more details about what is on offer, please see our website tinyurl.com/scys1. Please also sign up to our network at tinyurl.com/scysnetwork to receive regular updates. The Catholic Bishops Conference of England and Wales has produced further World Youth Sunday resources at worldyouthsunday.org/wyd2023.

X PARISH GRAND BAZAAR Thank you to everyone who supported this event, which raised the wonderful sum of £2075.34 for Parish Funds.

X THE SICK - We remember all those who are sick and housebound and that they remain in our prayers including Bob Vickery, Canon Luke Smith, Sheelagh (Mary) Crowther, Beulah Blomfield, Veronica Poulton, Margaret Woolley and Leonard Loader.

X  WE PRAY FOR THE RECENTLY DECEASED - Please pray for the repose of the souls of Kathy Goble, Denis Crofts, Michael Shields, Muriel Hilliard, Diane Collins, Sister Sophie and all those who have died recently or whose anniversaries fall at this time including: Stanley Regnaud, Denis White (26th Nov); Bridget Hunt, Annie Cork (27th Nov); Josephine Taylor (28th Nov); Michael Woods, Marguerite Faucompre, Rose Bray (29th Nov); Emily Sumner (30th Nov); Anthony Reddington, Douglas Watts (1st Dec); Peter Patton, Margaret Westall, Florence Sharpe (2nd Dec); Jose Scheirs, Alice Stanley (3rd Dec).

X COLLECTIONS – provisional figures for last week’s collections are: the first collection raised £1507.45.  Thank you for your generosity.

X  ADVENT WREATH WORKSHOP: This will be held on Saturday December 2nd at OLHoC Hall from 2pm–4pm. All are welcome to come along, especially families – it was enjoyed by many last year. Donations are requested. To book a place please sign up on the sheet at the back of the church or contact Cecilia on 01303 250230.

X  PARISH CHRISTMAS DINNER FOR ALL PARISHIONERS OF OUR LADY AND ST JOSEPH: This will take place on Sunday 10th December at 1.00pm in the OLHoC Hall. There will be a three-course dinner and a raffle. Soft drinks will be available but please bring your own wine/beer. Cost is £15 per person and you will need a ticket.

To get your tickets, please ring Sara Adams on 07864 581191 and leave your name and contact number or see Chi Davies or Anne Berry. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Just to make everybody aware that that this is the only Christmas Dinner organised by the Parish Pastoral and Social Committee, to bring all the parishioners who like this kind of celebration together as one parish. Of course, there are people who claim to be members of the same parish, but when we come to occasions like this, they prefer to go away to organise their own, anyone who does believe in one parish/parish Unity should not fall into such trap.

X  FOLKESTONE WINTER SHELTER - The winter shelter offers accommodation, support and home-cooked food to homeless people from December 1st until the end of March.  We need volunteers to help with cooking, befriending, and driving. Our church leads the provision on Wednesdays and training is provided. If you are able to help, please contact Judy Doherty on judy.doherty59@gmail.com

X SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEK
For Christmas flowers to decorate our Church.
