If you’re interested, contact folkestone@rcaos.org.uk

MASSES AT OUR LADY, HELP OF CHRISTIANS ARE BROADCAST LIVE AT

X FIRST ANNIVERSARY MASS FOR FR EDMUND (ED) HARTLEY ON WEDNESDAY 26TH MAY AT ST JOSEPH’S AT 12.00 NOON. On Wednesday we will remember Fr Ed Hartley, who died one year ago to the day.

X ALTAR SERVERS - We are now looking at bringing back Altar Servers, starting with Mass on Sundays. Altar servers assist the priest and the deacon and may carry the cross, the candles, the thurible, the bread, the wine, and the water.

The role of an Altar Server is integral to the celebration of Mass and should be mature enough to understand their responsibilities and to carry them out well with appropriate reverence. They should also have already received Holy Communion for the first time and receive the Eucharist whenever they take part in the liturgy. If you are interested, please let Fr Alex know via email on folkestone@rcaos.org.uk so that you may receive proper formation before beginning your ministry as an Altar Server.

X COMMUNION FOR THE SICK – home visits can now take place by priests, deacons and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. If you were previously an XMC in the Parish, can you please let Fr Alex know who you are and who you were previously visiting. Following changes to safeguarding, all XMCs will require to be DBS checked at least once every three years by the Diocese. Our new Safeguarding team will be in touch with you once you have let us know that you wish to continue.

X MINISTRY OF READERS – thank you for everyone who took part in the training for the Ministry of Readers. Unfortunately, if you did not attend, then you will not be able to take part in reading at Mass. If you missed the session and would still like to read at Mass in our Parish, please contact folkestone@rcaos.org.uk There will be a follow up session to review what was done and for any new people who wish to join the ministry of Readers on Wednesday 2nd June at OLHoC at 7.00pm.

X FINANCE COUNCIL MEETING – our newly formed Parish Finance Council will meet at 7.00pm on Monday 21st June in the Parish Hall at Our Lady, Help of Christians.

X CATHOLIC UNIVERSE – the latest copies of the Catholic Universe are available at the back of OLHoC and are now individually wrapped and Covid safe. Please put your money in the Newspapers collection box for any purchase made.

X COLLECTION AT SUNDAY MASS – the collection basket will be brought forward at the start of the Offertory Procession and placed on the table in front of the Altar. The congregation will then be invited to come forward to place their offering in the basket during the singing of the Offetory Hymn in the same manner as Communion is taken by leaving the pews on a row by row basis with safe Covid distancing. At the end of the Offertory, the last person will give the basket to the Deacon or Altar Server to take the basket of offerings away. The CollecTin card donation machine will remain at the back of the church at OLHoC and continue to be able to receive collections using credit and debit cards before and after Mass.

X SAFEGUARDING MESSAGE - The government have launched the “Ask for ANI” codeword scheme in partnership with Boots and independent pharmacies across the country for those who are victim to or at risk of domestic abuse. Please click here for more information on the government website: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/ pharmacies-launch-codeword-scheme-to-offer-lifeline-todomestic-abuse-victims

X Please pray for those sick in the Parish and remember all those Parishioners who have recently died including Ray Smith, who lived in Hawkinge, and died peacefully last week in hospital, after a long fight with the big C.  He was a regular at St Joseph's social events, and a loyal follower of line dancing there. He maintained good spirit of acceptance supported by his faith until the end.  May he rest in peace. May we also remember all those people whose anniversaries occur at this time. And all those throughout the world, especially in India, who might be suffering grief, sorrow and anxiety during these Covid times .

“One could say without exaggeration, that the family is the DRIVING FORCE of the World and of History. Our personality develops in the family, by growing up with our mum and dad, our brothers and sisters, by breathing in the warmth of the home.” Pope Francis 25.10.13

X THE PASSAGE Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Patron of The Passage, will celebrate the 5.30pm Mass at Westminster Cathedral on Tuesday 25 May 2021 to mark 40 years of service to homeless people.
