X JOURNEY IN FAITH/RCIA (RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULT)
- Are you a Baptised non-confirmed Catholic?
- Are you a
Baptised non-Catholic?
- Are you
thinking about converting to the Catholic faith?
– Are you a
Catholic who wants to know more about the faith?
This is something you can do and encourage others to do too.
The new group will start after half-term on Monday 1st November and we will link classes to the school calendar year and term time only. Please call or get in touch with Fr Alex on 01303 252823 or folkestone@rcaos.org.uk or speak to Fr Alex after Mass or make an appointment at the Catholic Presbytery at Guildhall Street and he will tell all you wish to know about becoming a Catholic or learning more about the Catholic faith. The enrolment starts now and will conclude on Friday 29th October.
X FIRST RECONCILIATION AND FIRST HOLY COMMUNION - if you have seriously taken up the commitment you and your child’s Godparents made on the day your child was baptised, the child will be familiar with Mass, maybe children’s liturgy, and will understand at least something about prayer. Whether you have enrolled your child in a Catholic school or in a non-Catholic school, your regular attendance at Mass will help judge your child’s readiness for the preparation before the celebration of the First Sacrament of Reconciliation, First Confession and First Holy Communion. Thus, the Catholic Church in England and Wales suggests that from year 3 upward, any baptised child who reaches the age of 8yrs can enrol for the preparation of these two sacraments of initiation. Contact Fr Alex on 01303 253824 or email folkestone@rcaos.org.uk to arrange an appointment to discuss your child’s arrangements to enrol for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
More
information about Baptism and First Reconciliation, First Confession and First
Holy Communion is available on the Parish website at
http://catholic-folkestone.blogspot.com under the Sacramental Preparation tab.
X OUR LADY & ST JOSEPH’S 100 CLUB SUMMER DRAW! – The next draw will be after the 11.00am Mass
on Sunday 26th September and new members are very welcome!
X CONFIRMATION
– are you in Year 8 or above and not yet
confirmed?
- Do you have a child, grandchild or godchild in Year 8 or above who has not yet received the Sacrament of Confirmation?
Please contact Fr Alex on 01303 252823 or email folkestone@rcaos.org.uk or speak to him after Mass to learn and find out what you need to do to help you or your child to be confirmed. Again, anyone who is interested, you must let Fr Alex know before the end of half-term week on Friday 29th October.
X THIS WEEK’S RETIRING COLLECTION IS FOR THE HOME MISSION - the Catholic Agency for the Support of Evangelisation. This collection provides the Bishops of England and Wales with resources to support Home mission, the spread of the gospel in our own country. The money collected enables a breadth of work to be done in support of parish evangelisation.
X THE ARCHBISHOP’S CERTIFICATE (ARCHCERT) is an
online course for all in Southwark who wish to know their Catholic faith
more deeply. Participants will take a two-year journey through the
Church’s teaching to understand their faith in a more profound way and be
able to share it with both confidence and joy.
The course will commence in October 2021 and the cost will be £365 per
year. Registration must be completed in advance. Further
details can be found here: https://aec.rcaos.org.uk/archcert
X UCM BRING AND BUY SALE NEXT SUNDAY, 26TH SEPTEMBER - we will be having a UCM Bring & Buy sale plus cake stall after both Sunday Masses on 26th September. Setting up in the Parish Hall will be on the afternoon of Saturday 25th September. Please donate any bric-a-brac for the sale but no clothes. Please note that any items that are not sold will have to be taken back home. The proceeds from the sale will be going to help refugees for World Day of Migrants and Refugees.
X GET YOUR BACON BUTTIES – in St Joseph’s Church Hall after the 9.00am Sunday Mass this week as part of the ‘Sunriser breakfast’ offering. Also, bacon butties will now be available after the 9.00am Sunday Mass at OLHoC too, to coincide with the UCM Bring and Buy sale. Remember also to observe the Eucharistic Fast. Canon Law states ‘A person who is to receive the Most Holy Eucharist is to abstain for at least one hour before holy communion from any food and drink, except for only water and medicine’.

X RIDE AND STRIDE – thank you to all who took part or volunteered at our churches for this year’s Ride and Stride. Dylan managed to walk round all the churches in Folkestone, Cheriton and Sandgate, Sara cycled to churches across the Romney Marsh, and Carol, Pat, Rosemary and many others took part riding and striding. Judging by the number of sign ins at churches, our Parish was well represented, so well done all. The sponsorship money is still coming in and we are totting up the total. If you have not yet given your sponsorship, please do so asap or put it through the door at the Catholic Presbytery at 41 Guildhall Street marked ‘Ride and Stride’.
X THE AGENCY FOR EVANGELISATION AND CATECHESIS which celebrated its
first anniversary this month (September 2021), supports parishes in terms of
evangelisation, catechesis and formation.
