X DISTRIBUTION OF HOLY COMMUINON DURING SUNDAY MASSES - will continue to be under one kind and the Priest will continue to sanitise his hands beforehand and wear a face covering whilst distributing. Communion at Sunday Mass will only be distributed in the hand due to the numbers attending, for practical and safety reasons and to avoid putting the Priest at risk. According to instruction, after each distribution, the priest is required to sanitise his hands before giving to the next communicant. The clergy team feel this cannot be done locally at Sunday Mass, and having reviewed the instruction, which allows each parish to decide taking into account their own particular situation locally, has decided that on Sunday, Holy Communion will only be given in the hand.
Those who wish to receive on the tongue may do so at Mass during the week when it is quieter and by waiting until all those receiving it in the hand have done so. There should be care on the part of the minister to avoid physical contact with the communicant when distributing Holy Communion. For some this is a sacrifice, therefore I invite all to be patient and kind at this time.
X PLEASE PRAY FOR THE REPOSE OF THE SOULS of the relatives and friends of our parishioners who have died recently including Alice McLaughlin, and all those whose anniversaries fall at this time, including amongst them: Margaret Gray (12 Sept); Mollie O’Connor, Suzanne Michael (13 Sep); Robert Benson (14 Sept); Alfred Langley, Jean Borucki, Jeannette Phillips (15 Sept); Josie Kernan, Edmund Boughton (16 Sept); Violet Persse (17 Sept); Oliver Quinn (19 Sept).
X UCM BRING AND BUY SALE ON SUNDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER - we will be having a UCM Bring & Buy plus cake stall after Sunday Masses on 26th September. Setting up in the Parish Hall will be on the afternoon of Saturday 25th September. Please donate any bric-a-brac for the sale but no clothes.

X PLEASE PRAY for all those who are

X EDUCATION SUNDAY is this Sunday just after the new academic year starts. The theme for 2021 is ‘A word in season’, taken from Isaiah 50:4.
Churches Together in England (CTE) rightly describes teaching and studying as “demanding and privileged callings” and Education Sunday gives us the opportunity to give thanks to God for all who teach and all who study, for all who continually have to find the right words and deliver them with enthusiasm and graciousness.
This is all the more poignant as we attempt to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Teachers, pupils and leaders in our schools have suffered 18 months of disruption and uncertainty. For the second year in a row, GCSE and A Level students have been Centre Assessed or Teacher Assessed – a challenging situation for both teachers and pupils.
On 12th September, we pray that God will fortify those working to make our schools places of learning and sanctuary – not just teachers and leaders but all the support staff whose tireless work sometimes goes unnoticed. We pray for all our primary and secondary pupils – particularly school leavers who have had such a difficult journey in recent times – not to mention students in higher education and vocational training.
There will be a retiring collection for the Catholic Education Service.

know of anyone that would be suitable for one of the positions, please visit
the link below to view the roles they are looking to hire for and learn how to
apply.

X OPPOSE THE ASSISTED DYING BILL - In 2021, a Private Members Bill on ‘Assisted Dying’ was introduced in the House of Lords by Baroness Molly Meacher, Chair of Dignity in Dying. It is due its second reading on 22 October, where there will be a full debate in the House of Lords. The Bill is almost identical in form to the ‘Marris Bill’, which was overwhelmingly defeated by 330 votes to 118 in the House of Commons in 2015.
In essence it permits an adult who is terminally ill (less than 6 months to live) to be assisted in ending their life, provided a declaration is signed by them, a witness, two doctors (one attending and one independent) and a Judge of the High Court Family Division has then consented to the request.
Our Lead Bishop for Life Issues, Bishop John Sherrington, has written an open letter inviting Catholics to pray for the defeat of the Assisted Dying Bill.
What can you do?
Pray - As this Bill makes its way through Parliament, we encourage you to pray that it is defeated and that there is a greater focus and investment placed on high quality end-of-life care.
Write - Please consider writing to
Members of the House of Lords or Commons and asking them to oppose this Bill.
Don’t be afraid to share your own experiences of ‘dying well’ and ‘end of life
care’ if you have them through your work or personal life.

Our main concerns with the Bill can be summarised as follows: Protecting the Most Vulnerable, The Experience of Other Countries and Investing in Care and Not Ending Care. More information is available at https://www.cbcew.org.uk/assisted-dying-bill-2021/
X THE POPE’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR SEPTEMBER 2021 - An environmentally sustainable lifestyle We pray that we all will make courageous choices for a simple and environmentally sustainable lifestyle, rejoicing in our young people who are resolutely committed to this.
