X AN UPDATE FROM THE PARISH REPRESENTATIVE GROUP ......
First, you may wonder who and what we are! About a year ago four committees were formed in the parish to take forward different aspects of the work of the parish. These committees are:
•
Finance and property
•
Pastoral and social
•
Liturgy
•
Evangelisation and formation
The Chairs,
vice-Chairs and secretaries of the four committees were then invited to meet
twice a year with Fr Alex as a Parish Representative Group to review how things
were going and to identify and address future need. Our Churches
Together in Folkestone rep, Judy Doherty, is also part of the group.
Last week we held
our second meeting and we reviewed what we’d been doing in the past six months
and how we could be more effective in helping ours to be a thriving, harmonious,
inclusive, God-centred parish.
Each committee
presented a report on their work, their successes and the challenges they
face. We didn’t duck issues! We’re aware that bringing together two
previous parishes can’t be achieved overnight and that change can be
painful! However, we also recognise
•
The goodwill and hard work that have gone on for
years in building community
•
The pool of talent and skills from which we draw
•
The legacies of both former communities which
it’s now our turn to take forward, melding together the best of both
In addition,
we’re blessed with two beautiful churches, two halls, our parish primary school
and our deanery secondary school.
Issues we’ll be
addressing
•
Boiler repairs and re-opening of St Joseph’s
church
•
Combining a parish halls management team and
social club
•
Communication, accountability and transparency
•
Building a more secure financial future
•
Fostering the faith of our young people
•
Addressing the spiritual needs of parishioners
through specific liturgies, celebrations and groups
•
Working with other parish groups to meet the
needs of our elderly and housebound
•
Progressing priority repairs to parish buildings
as identified in the parish survey
There’s a lot to
do but when people of goodwill undertake tasks together in faith, there’s no
telling where the Holy Spirit will take us!
If you’d like to join a committee to further the needs of our community,
let Fr Alex or one of those listed below know:
Finance and Property
Committee co-Chairs: John Devine and André Kleinman
Pastoral and Social:
Chi Davies (Chair), Ann Berry (vice-Chair), Monica Aherne (Secretary)
Liturgy: Patrick
Davies (Chair), Terry Houlahan (vice-Chair), Karen Ingelbrecht (Secretary)
