X A NEW LECTIONARY FOR A NEW YEAR. This forthcoming Advent we shall be introducing a new Lectionary – the book the readings at Mass are read from. This is because the translation shall be different and all parishes will now be using the new wording from Advent.
You can pre-order a new Sunday or Weekday Missal from Eileen in the shop.
X AFTERNOON FOR READERS to introduce the new translation for the Lectionary.
Addressing questions such as: Why change the translation, what is different and what does it mean in practice, for readers?
Also, an opportunity to reflect on some broader questions: The Word of God in the life of the Church. How we understand the Old Testament in the light of our faith in Christ. Led by Bishop Paul Hendricks it will be held in the church hall of St Thomas of Canterbury, 59 Burgate, Canterbury, Kent, CT1 2HJ on Saturday 2nd November 2024 from 2pm to 4pm.

X REMEMBRANCE SERVICE - All who have lost a loved one are invited to attend the parish remembrance service on 2nd November at 2.00 pm. Please bring anything that you hold in memory of your loved one with you and this will be placed on the altar during Mass. Refreshments will be available in the Church Hall after Mass.

X INFANT BAPTISM may only happen after
undergoing a preparation with the parish priest. Baptisms can then be
celebrated at either 3pm on a Saturday or 1pm on a Sunday on the 1st or 3rd
Sunday of the month.

X ASSISTED DYING BILL - Parliament may be rushing a Bill into law to legalise
assisted dying – here's how you can oppose it.
There have been increasing reports in the news that the Government will support a Bill in Parliament to legalise assisted dying. This threat to the sanctity of life requires action on our part to show we will not stand by as such an extreme law is rushed through.
Archbishop John Wilson said in a Pastoral Letter on the subject in March 2024, that as “baptised followers of the Lord Jesus we must do all within our power to support the most vulnerable in our society, especially those who have no voice to speak for themselves.". In the letter, the Archbishop reminds us that “the Catholic Church believes and teaches that every life is valuable, regardless of one’s physical or mental state or ability. We are called to care for those who are suffering, not to bring about their death. We cannot approve of any form of euthanasia and assisted suicide.”

CERTIFICATE IN RELIGIOUS STUDIES
The CCRS is a knowledge-based, internationally recognised qualification that provides participants with an understanding of the teachings of the Catholic faith. It enhances the understanding that education within the Church is a life-long process which leads to greater intimacy with Jesus Christ. This course presents the basic foundational teachings of the Catholic Church in a manner that is captivating, inspiring, and applicable. The CCRS is designed and intended to support the Archbishop’s vision of missionary parishes and schools by cultivating an evangelistic spirit. Participants will be equipped to make an informed and practical contributions to their chosen field of ministry within the Church.

X VACANCY FOR PARISH SECRETARY AND ADMINISTRATOR (12 HOURS PER WEEK) – we are looking to recruit an experienced, organised and efficient office administrator to assist with supporting Fr Alex, through the smooth running of our Parish office. Since the end of 2022, Dylan and Sara have kindly volunteered their time to cover many of the tasks involved but we now want to make the transition to have a Secretary in place once again.
Duties will include receiving callers to the Presbytery, answering emails and incoming telephone calls, coordinating with the various Parish committees and groups and external contractors and suppliers. Excellent written and verbal communication, organisation and computer skills will also be required, to ensure timely and accurate recording of Parish documentation and financial data into the Archdiocesan finance system. The rate of pay would be £11.44 per hour for 4 hours on a Monday, Tuesday, and Friday each week. X RECEPTION OF COMMUNION – only Catholics in a state of grace are allowed to receive Communion at Mass. Those who receive this in their hands should put it into their mouth before leaving the Minister. Anyone not receiving should go to the priest, cross their arms over their chest to receive a blessing.
X FAREWELL
TO BISHOP PHILIP MOGER, who has been an assistant bishop in
our Diocese since February 2023, and who has been appointed Bishop of the
Diocese of Plymouth. Bishop Philip’s farewell Mass will be at 6pm on Friday 1st
November at St George’s Cathedral, which will also be the Solemn Mass of All
Saints.
