X ARCHBISHOP JOHN ENCOURAGES US TO BE COURAGEOUS AND COME TO THE LORD IN THE SACRAMENT OF CONFESSION.
As Advent approaches, we begin to prepare ourselves to build a deeper
relationship with the Lord Jesus through the celebration of his birth.
A key part of this preparation is to reflect on ourselves, and seize the
opportunity to examine our consciences as we celebrate with joy our new life in
Christ. That is why Archbishop John is encouraging us all to be courageous and
come to the Lord in the Sacrament of Confession. In a video message, Archbishop
John explains that the starting point of a good confession is a
“personal belief that God is the Father of mercies and it is in Jesus Christ that the face of that mercy is revealed”.
People can often
feel anxious or nervous to use confession, putting up barriers in their mind.
But the Archbishop reminds us that we just need to
“enter the confessional with a contrite and humble heart and put your faith in the Father of mercies. Put your faith in His Son, the Lord Jesus, our Divine Healer”.
Drawing on the words of St Thérèse of Lisieux, who said “for those who love God and after each fault come to ask his pardon, Jesus trembles with joy” the Archbishop said: “No matter your sins or how long it has been since you last went to confession, be courageous and come to the Lord in this Sacrament.” The Archbishop added the Lord desires to “pour out upon you the gift of his Mercy” and that by going to confession the “Lord Jesus will tremble with joy”.
Confession is available here on Saturdays at 11am to 12 noon. If you require confession outside of this time, please contact Fr Alex.
X THE CATHOLIC CERTIFICATE IN RELIGIOUS STUDIES - The CCRS is a knowledge-based, internationally recognised qualification that provides participants with an understanding of the teachings of the Catholic faith. It enhances the understanding that education within the Church is a life-long process which leads to greater intimacy with Jesus Christ. This course presents the basic foundational teachings of the Catholic Church in a manner that is captivating, inspiring, and applicable. The CCRS is designed and intended to support the Archbishop’s vision of missionary parishes and schools by cultivating an evangelistic spirit. Participants will be equipped to make an informed and practical contributions to their chosen field of ministry within the Church.
Please visit aec.rcaos.org.uk/ccrs for further information. Closing date for applicants this year is 4th November 2024.
X MISSIO – The Holy Father invites all Catholics to support Missio, his charity for World Mission next Sunday. This day of prayer, giving and solidarity unites Catholics worldwide to share the Good News of God’s love. To donate, take an envelope from the back of the Church to be ready for the second collection next Sunday. There is also a prayer card for you to take home.
X WE PRAY FOR THE RECENTLY DECEASED - Please pray for the repose of the soul of Robert Jones, Christine Mary Kissane, James Kissane, Ron Hall and all those who have died recently, and those whose anniversaries fall at this time including Raymond Girault, Giustina Spearpoint, Gabriel Swanson, Dominico Garofalo, Mary Davey, Frederick Hayes, Robert Goodall (13th Oct); Marguerite Smalley, Irene Richardson, Muriel Olpherts-Forrester, Gertrude Nowers (14th Oct); Terry O’Shea, Joseph Gannon, Eve Wyatt-Foulger, Patrick Perry (16th Oct); Moira Goss, Minnie Nicholl, Joshua Burnett (17th Oct); Sister Mary McManus, Kathleen Philpott (18th Oct); Guiseppe Vanedola, Dora Rodgers, Julie Shirley, Evan Davies (19th Oct); Sister Constance Mary Ellinger, William Goldfinch, Ann Mitchell, Gerald Grey, Patricia Crawley (20th Oct); Frank D’Agostini (21st Oct).
X PRAYER FOR PEACE - Lord our God, Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, and Father of all mankind, Who in the cross of Your Son and through the gift of His own life, at great cost You wished to destroy the wall of enmity and hostility that separates peoples and makes us enemies: Send into our hearts the gift of the Holy Spirit, that He may purify us from every feeling of violence, hatred and revenge, enlighten us to understand the irrepressible dignity of every human person, and inflame us to the point of consumption for a peaceful and reconciled world in truth and justice, in love and freedom.
Almighty
and eternal God, in Your hands, are the hopes of men and the rights of every
people: Assist with Your wisdom those who govern us so that, with Your help, they
will become sensitive to the sufferings of the poor and of those who suffer the
consequences
of violence and war; may they promote the common good and lasting peace in the region and throughout the earth.
Virgin
Mary, Mother of Hope, obtain the gift of peace for the Holy Land that gave
birth to you and for the whole world. Amen.
