X REMINDER ABOUT PREPARATION FOR MASS – You need to arrive in church in good time before Mass starts. The Church teaches that this very moment is to be used to prepare oneself for Mass.  If you have read the Scripture Readings for the Mass in question, you can use this moment to pray with the Scripture Readings. If you have not previously read them, then this is the moment for you to read the Scripture Readings for the Mass. If you have done all of the above, then this time is to be spent in silence in preparation for the great mystery. 

Please, take the newsletter as you are leaving the church. It will help you to learn about the various things happening in the Parish, the Archdiocese and the world. 

You have come to Mass to be fed with the Word of God and Body of Christ. Do not let the newsletter replace the Word of God. Allow the Word of God to make flesh in you. 

X NEW LECTIONARIES – from the 1st Sunday of Advent, we will replace all the Lectionaries in England and Wales. This means the old ones are no longer required and will never be used again. 

Those who can afford it, can now buy a new Sunday Missal. Those who cannot afford it, the Parish will make provision for you at our Masses. We will be moving from the Mass Reading Sheets to a Parish Mass Book.  Anyone thinking about buying their own Sunday Missal, please speak to the shop to order yours now. 

AN APPEAL FOR AN ACT OF KINDNESS AND FAVOUR

Please, as you leave the Church at the end of Mass, return the books and papers, that you were given when you first arrived, to the back of the Church where they normally stay for the next Mass. It is sad to see our volunteer who welcomed you, going through the pews to collect hymn books and papers that have been left behind and not returned to them or to the back of the Church. Thank you for your act of kindness and favour regarding such matter.

X DRAW PRIZES – please look to see if you have won a prize in the Grand Draw. There is a list of prize winners in the porch and in the hall.  Prizes can be picked up from the Presbytery. 

X  PARISH CHRISTMAS DINNER will be on Sunday 8th December at 12.45pm at the OLHC hall. There will be a delicious three - course meal. Soft drinks will be provided, but please bring your own wine/ beer. Tickets are £20 per adult and £10 for children aged 5 to 16 years. Under 5 year olds eat free.

X REQUIEM MASS FOR LILLIAN CLAUDINA ORFILA RIP will take place on Friday 29th November 2024 at 10.00am here in Folkestone. Please remember Lillian and all the family in your prayers and may she rest in peace.  

X ADVENT NOVENA 16th – 23rd December 2024.

Please join us each evening to deepen our experience of the anticipation of the coming of Our Lord, from Monday December 16th in the lead up to Christmas. 

Mass at 7pm preceded by the chance to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation from 6.30 pm. Refreshments in the hall on the first and last evenings. All welcome 

X NOVEMBER ENVELOPES FOR THE DEPARTED are available at the back of Church. November is the Month of the Holy Souls, and so throughout the month we continue to keep in our liturgical prayer those special people, particular to us, who have died. 

X A DAY WITH MARY is taking place at St George's Cathedral, Southwark on Saturday 14 December (10.15am to 5.15pm). Mass will be celebrated by the Archbishop of Southwark Diocese, John Wilson. Further information is available at https://www.adaywithmary.org/  or https://eventcatholic.com/

X  CATHOLIC YOUTH SERVICES SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND ON SAT 24TH / SUN 25TH NOVEMBER – Supports youth work in the diocese and beyond, especially the Southwark Catholic Youth Services. 

X INFANT BAPTISM may only happen after undergoing a preparation with the parish priest. Baptisms can then be celebrated at either 3pm on a Saturday or 1pm on a Sunday on the 1st or 3rd Sunday of the month. 

X RECEPTION OF COMMUNION – only Catholics in a state of grace are allowed to receive Communion at Mass. Those who receive this in their hands should put it into their mouth before leaving the Minister.  Anyone not receiving should go to the priest, cross their arms over their chest to receive a blessing. If you have not received Baptism, Confirmation and First Holy Communion in the Catholic Church or received into the Catholic Church, you only receive a blessing when you attend Mass.
