X RECEPTION INTO THE CHURCH it is now only one week to go until we shall welcome Mike Fletcher into the Full Communion of the Catholic Church. This will also be an opportunity for those in attendance wo renew our baptismal promises along with them.

X FIRST HOLY COMMUNION – we are also preparing to celebrate with over thirty children and young people who will make their First Holy Communion on 11th July at 1.00pm for a special celebration Mass with family, friends and relatives at Our Lady, Help of Christians.

The following Sunday, 18th July, there will be an opportunity for the Parish to join our First Holy Communion candidates for a Parish Mass celebration, where they would normally attend Mass, at either the 9.00am at St Joseph’s or the 11.00am at Our Lady, Help of Christians. Please pray for all the children in our Parish as they prepare to approach the Holy Table for the first time, for their protection, safety, strength in faith and increased love to make them worthy to receive all of Your gifts into their hearts.

X OUR PARISH CATHOLIC SHOP - the shop is open every day after Mass at OLHoC (except Saturday evening) for all your Catholic needs including statues, Rosaries, books, Missals, cards, magnets, medals and more including First Holy Communion gifts. Thank you to Eileen and Madeleine for volunteering many hours to keep it going and to all of you who support it.

X PLEASE PRAY FOR THE REPOSE OF THE SOULS of all those whose anniversaries fall at this time, including amongst them: Brigitte Crofts, Henry McGlone, David Esdaile, Ida Newton (4th July); Julia Kinchin, Pabala Ranasinghe, Cas Taylor (5th July); Helen Brickell (6th July); Florinda Howard, Violet Kemp, Joyce Donnachie, Catherine Cobb (7th July); Helen Welch, Kathleen Neale, Cecil Prior, Frederick Bush (8th July);  Barbara Burgess, Christopher Durban, Maurice Donley, Colin Kendall (10th July); Giselle Birch, Bernard Combemale, Nellie Kedwell (11th July)

X  COVID GUIDELINES FOR OUR PARISH CHURCHES FOR MASS

1.    Please take personal responsibility when visiting the church for using the Trace and Trace QR CODE.

2.    Use HAND SANITISER on ENTERING and EXITING church.

3.    Wear FACE COVERINGS (unless exempt) when in church.

4.    Keep doors OPEN if possible during services.

5.    Keep a 1 METRE safe distance.

6.    Congregational singing is not permitted at this time. Please hum or sing in your head at Sunday Mass. Due to current restrictions, there are no more than three people allowed in the choir (or a bubble) until further notice.

MASS ATTENDANCE: 217 people came to the Sunday Masses in the Parish last week. Thank you for your cooperation and support in observing the Covid guidelines.

X URGENT ELECTRIAL WORKS – in the next few weeks, we will be spending nearly £2,000 on urgently required electrical safety works in the church, hall and presbytery at both churches of Our Lady, Help of Christians and St Aloysius on Guildhall Street and at St Joseph’s on Ashley Avenue, Cheriton. Although this work was not budgeted for this year, we need to carry it out to get the required green NIACE Electrical Certificates for our insurance and to complete all the urgent works which were identified following a Diocesan inspection.

We will therefore be having a much needed second collection this weekend to raise the money for the works required.  You can also donate via cheque payable to “The Parish of Our Lady and St Joseph, Folkestone” and placed an envelope marked ‘Renovation Appeal’ and posted through the Parish Office door at the Presbytery at 41 Guildhall Street on any day or via bank transfer to The Parish of Our Lady and St Joseph Folkestone, Sort Code 52-41-42 and Account Number 08605556 with the reference ‘Renovation’.

Alternatively, you can use our Just Giving page online, a link is on our parish website, which allows for payments to be made by credit and debit card or by PayPal with no fees at

WE FLY TO THY PROTECTION –

We fly to Thy protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers,

O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.

X OUR LADY & ST JOSEPH’S 100 CLUB – Last Sunday saw the final delayed summer draw with a prize of £50.00. Congratulations to Jack and Jess Devine who won with number 90!

On Sunday 25th July, there will be a special £100.00 prize draw to start the new 2021/22 100 Club and it is hoped, that subject to restrictions being lifted, we will have the draw in the Parish Hall at OLHoC after the 11.00am Mass along with the resumption of tea, coffee and cake. Please consider joining this excellent fundraising activity for our parish and application/renewal forms for the 2021/2022 year are at the back of each church. This year we are increasing the prize pot and membership will be £25.00 per number per year. New members are very welcome (and you can have as many numbers as you like)! Your number(s) won’t be included in the draw until you’ve paid your subscription.

X STOP ABORTION UP TO BIRTH BECOMING LAW - Catholics in England and Wales are urgently urged to write to their MP requesting they vote against an amendment to the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill that could see abortion on demand, for any reason, up to birth. This is being debated and voted on next week.

Right to Life, a charity that defends the right to life of every human being from conception to natural death, has an online submission form that finds your local MP and provides a template letter, that you can edit, to make your views known. Just go online and visit https://righttolife.org.uk/stopabortionuptobirth or you can write to your MP at House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA

PRAYER TO ST MICHAEL -

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil;  May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;  And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.  Amen.
