All the children who celebrated First Holy Communion, and their families, are invited to this special thanksgiving Mass and are encouraged to wear their First Holy Communion Dress for a final group photo. All the children are requested to practice the hymn, ‘Lord Jesus Christ, you have come to us’ for the thanksgiving.
The UCM are organising
a little celebration to be held in the Parish Hall after Mass.
X NOVEMBER ENVELOPES FOR THE DEPARTED ARE NOW AVAILABLE AT THE BACK OF CHURCH. November is the Month of the Holy Souls, and so throughout the month we continue to keep in our liturgical prayer those special people, particular to us, who have died. Envelopes are available at the back of each church and those received will remain on the Altar during November.
A plenary indulgence, applicable only to Holy Souls, may be gained once in any church either on All Souls’ Day, on the preceding or following Sunday or on the Feast of All Saints, on the usual conditions, viz a visit to a church, where Our Father and Creed are recited, sacramental confession, Holy Communion and prayer for the Holy Father’s intention.
X CAROL SERVICE – Sunday, 12th December at 4.30pm at St Joseph’s Church followed by refreshments in the hall including mince pies, mulled wine and a Prize Draw organised by the St. Josephs team and the UCM. There will also be a special gift for all the children.
X PARISH PASTORAL LETTER – this week there is a special Parish Pastoral Letter from Fr Alex about the ‘Synod Process and the Role of the Parish Priest’.
Please
take it away and read the message in full. It is very important.
X RECEPTION OF COMMUNION AT MASS – those not in Full Communion with the Roman Catholic Church and Roman Catholics not able to receive Holy Communion are welcome to come forward to receive a blessing. Those wishing to receive a blessing are asked to approach the Priest with their arms crossed over their chest.
X SECOND COLLECTION THIS
WEEKEND is for Archbishop’s Fund for Diocesan Administration. This fund helps to meet
the cost of the central administration of the Diocese.
X CHURCHES TOGETHER DEDICATION SERVICE FOR THE FOLKESTONE WINTER SHELTER will take place on Sunday 28th November at 6.00pm at St John’s Church. All are welcome to attend.
X NEXT WEEK’S SECOND COLLECTION is for the Catholic Youth Services to
support youth work in the diocese and beyond, especially the Southwark Catholic
Youth Service.
X THE PASSAGE WORKING WITH HOMELESS PEOPLE ANNUAL FUNDRAISING CONCERT – A NIGHT UNDER THE STARS - The Passage, a Christian Charity working with homeless people, is holding a fundraising concert at the Royal Festival Hall on Thursday 25 November on the theme Bohemian Rhapsody, featuring popular works by Dvořák, Mahler and Smetana. The performers includes Andrei Ioniță, Cello; Anush Kovhannisyan, Soprano; Streetwise Opera; Toby Purser, Conductor; and the Orion Orchestra. Full details and booking at https://passage.org.uk/night-under-the-stars-2021/ or telephone 020 75921856.
X RED WEDNESDAY – this year’s Red Wednesday will be on 24th November 2021, when we will be holding a special prayer vigil and lighting up the church red in the evening from 6.00pm for an hour.
As a result of targeted violence, around the world, millions of Christians are now displaced or refugees. Countless numbers have been driven from the homes, lost their livelihoods and even their liberty and their lives because of their faith. Please join us in prayer for the suffering and persecuted Church over nine days leading up to Red Wednesday 2021 on 24th November with a special Novena.
Our Novena begins on Monday 15th November 2021 and ends
on Tuesday 23rd November. We’ll be praying for the persecuted Church and
for all those suffering from religious discrimination and persecution in our
world today.
It has been decided to centre this year's Novena around
the idea that the Kingdom of God is for each one of us. Jesus tells us, in
Luke’s Gospel, “For, in fact, the Kingdom of God is among you.” [Luke 12:32,
NRSVCE]
God gives His kingdom to each of us. No matter who we
are, where we live or what our life is like, each of us is equal in the eyes of
God. He loves each one of us, and invites us to share the Good News of His
kingdom.
n persecution
On different days we will be praying for the persecuted people of Internally displaced people, Syria, Mozambique, Nigeria, Lebanon, Iraq, Pakistan, those suffering from natural disasters like that in Venezuela, and those hurt or killed as a result of war, fighting or persecution.
The Novena in full is
available at

X THE FOLKESTONE FOODBANK – As the temperature is now dropping and it has really started to become a lot colder and wetter, our generous and constant giving to the foodbank becomes increasingly important. Well done and thank you to our regular contributors - and to our occasional contributors, too! Urgently needed items are cup a soup, snacks, tinned custard, tinned rice pudding and tinned meat. Keep up the good work!
X CHRISTMAS CARDS AND MORE – from your very own Catholic Shop in our parish. Open every day after Mass at OLHoC (times are in the shop window) for all your cards, gifts, statues, rosaries and more, and every penny you spend will be supporting the work of our Parish, so please support our work.
X PRAY FOR THOSE IN THE PARISH WHO ARE SICK or in hospital including Margaret Foster, Francis Dunn, Mary Wheaton, Agata Borza and Daniel MacCarthy.
X TOWN MAYOR OF FOLKESTONE’S CHRISTMAS FUND 2021 – this fund has been running since 1974, and prior to this was known as the Mayor’s Coal Fund. Do you know somebody aged 75 or over that could do with a little help at this time of year? The fund provides gifts of between £35 and £55, dependent on the level of donations received from local businesses and individuals, to help those living in Folkestone (but not in a residential or care home). Applications must be made by 23rd December 2021 to Folkestone Town Council and forms are available from the Parish Office.
X PLEASE PRAY FOR THE REPOSE OF THE SOULS of Frances Kirk,
Louise Megit and Marguerita Snalley who died recently
and for all those
whose anniversaries fall at this time, including
amongst them: Thomas Gibson, Eileen Flynn, Marcel Brun (14th Nov); Mother John
Ogilvie, Margaret Barber (15th Nov); Patricia Relen, Ethel Hodson, Winifred
Goodchild (16th Nov); Agnes Richardson (17th Nov); Austin Maguire, Basil Deba
(18th Nov); Joseph Carney (19th Nov); Queenie Bailey, Peter Foster, Hilda Cave
(20th Nov); Lucienne Langley (21st Nov).
