X UPDATE ON THE SYNOD - The world-wide Synod of the Church will be held in autumn 2023 and, in preparation, parish consultation took place last autumn.  Submissions from the parishes (including ours) were collated by a diocesan team and an overall report from the Archdiocese of Southwark was submitted to the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales.

They in turn produced a report summarising those from all the English and Welsh dioceses, and this will shortly be on its way to Rome.

Both the Diocesan report and that from the Bishops’ Conference are now available for you to read at www.rcaos.org.uk/get-involved/synod/

If you scroll down the page and you’ll come to the box for the Southwark Synod Synthesis and, further down, a second box for the National Synthesis.  In the diocesan report, paragraph 18 ends with a direct quote from our parish submission.

X SEA SUNDAY SECOND COLLECTION last weekend raised the sum total of £101.00 for Apostleship of the Sea, a Catholic Charity supporting seafarers worldwide. There are still envelopes remaining at the back of the church for those that still wish to make a direct donation. For those that have kindly donated, thank you for your generosity.

X SIGN UP TODAY FOR THE PARISH CHILDREN’S SUMMER HOLIDAY CLUB TAKING PLACE ON THE FIRST FOUR TUESDAYS IN AUGUST   the Parish Pastoral and Social Committee have agreed to arrange a Summer Club in the Parish for children aged 5 to 14 years old taking place from 10.00am until 4.00pm on the first four Tuesdays of August at St Joseph’s Hall.

It will be led by parish volunteers who are fully DBS checked and it will include lunch, snacks and many activities including dancing, music, singing, crafts, cooking, gardening, writing, games, basic first aid training, films and more.  We have also received the wonderful news that teachers and staff from Stella Maris and Folkestone School for Girls will be assisting with the activities. Best of all, it will be free to attend!

The themes for each week are as follows:

  • Tuesday 2nd August: Crafts and Painting followed by a film.
  • Tuesday 9th August: Cooking followed by a film.
  • Tuesday 16th August: Music, singing and dance followed by a film.

X HEATING WORKS UPDATE – we are now putting in place the approved works to flush through the heating systems at both churches, and to replace the damaged parts at St Joseph’s.

Having sought quotations for the work, we have opted to go with Boiler Healthcare at a cost of £3,360 including VAT.  So far, we have raised a total of £863.51 so we are still short of our target.

You can still donate via cheque payable to “RCAS Folkestone” and placed an envelope marked ‘Heating Works Appeal’ and posted through the Parish Office door at the Presbytery at 41 Guildhall Street on any day or via bank transfer to RCAS Folkestone, Sort Code 52-41-42 and Account Number 08605556 with the reference ‘Heating’. Any donations are also eligible for Gift Aid.

Alternatively, you can use our Just Giving page online, a link is on our parish website, which allows for payments to be made by credit and debit card or by PayPal with no fees at

https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/olsj-folkestone

Please do give what you are able to, so we can undertake this vital needed work on our heating systems in both churches. Thank you for your generosity so far in meeting the cost of these works.
