X FR CAPENER is now in a nursing home – he said he is doing well but he does not want any visitors at the moment. He sends his love to everybody.

X SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION PROGRAMME FOR 2022-2023 - if you, or one of your family, relatives of friends, is thinking about enrolling for any of the sacramental programmes which will begin in October 2022 for the celebration of the Sacrament in 2023, the time has come for enrolment. The Sacraments in question are:

·         First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion

·         Confirmation

·         Rite of Christian Initiation for Baptism of Adults.

Each category will have its preparation sessions covering the period from October 2022- May/June 2023. Forms for enrolment are now at the back of the church.

FORMS ARE AT THE BACK OF THE CHURCH AND THE DEADLINE FOR ALL THESE ENROLMENTS IS FRIDAY 16th SEPTEMBER.

X PLEASE PRAY FOR THOSE WHO ARE SICK, IN HOSPITAL OR RECOVERING FROM ILLNESS, SURGERY OR TREATMENT including  Margaret Woolley, Francis Dunn, Lilian Orfila, Beulah Blomfield, Margaret Murphy, Alan Taylor and Fr Capener.

X FIRST HOLY COMMUNION CELEBRATIONS - children will receive their certificates at Sunday Mass this week (3rd July) at each church where they and their families usually attend each week.

X UCM & KRAN MEETING - On Thursday 7th July at 2pm, two youth ambassadors from KRAN (Kent Refugee Action Network) will speak about the work they are involved in. The UCM have organised this and members of the parish are Windly invited to attend.  Refreshments will be available. (The parish have also supported and sent a cheque to KRAN in the last 2 months for the work they do).

X PETERS PENCE – July is the month of Peter’s Pence. This raises funds to enable Pope Francis to exercise works of mercy and charity, to support the Church needs, to humanitarian initiatives and social promotion projects, as well as to support the Holy See. A box is available for your small donations at the back of each church.

X BBQ LUNCH AT ST JOSEPH’S CHURCH HALL THIS SUNDAY 3RD JULY AT 12.30PM – Tickets £4 for adults and £2 for children from Margaret Irving or on the door.

X URGENT HEATING WORKS – during the summer months we tend to forget about the heating, and the problems we experienced over last winter, particularly at St Joseph’s. The Parish’s Finance and Property Committee have approved works at both churches to flush through the heating systems, and to replace the damaged part at St Joseph’s. This should lead to improved heating over the winter months and mean that the radiators at St Joseph’s and Our Lady actually get considerably hotter than they currently are able to achieve due to sludge and other deposits in the system.

Having sought quotations for the work, we have opted to go with Boiler Healthcare at a cost of £3,360 including VAT.  We will therefore be having a much needed second collection this weekend to raise the money for the works required.  You can also donate via cheque payable to “RCAS Folkestone” and placed an envelope marked ‘Heating Works Appeal’ and posted through the Parish Office door at the Presbytery at 41 Guildhall Street on any day or via bank transfer to RCAS Folkestone, Sort Code 52-41-42 and Account Number 08605556 with the reference ‘Heating’. Any donations are also eligible for Gift Aid.

Alternatively, you can use our Just Giving page online, a link is on our parish website, which allows for payments to be made by credit and debit card or by PayPal with no fees at

https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/olsj-folkestone

X JUNE COLLECTIONS were £83.48 for Day for Life and £2,690.19 excluding Standing Orders. This compares with offertory of £1990 in 2021, £4773 in 2019 and £4.419 in 2018. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and we do urgently need funds to continue our work in the parish.  You can also give regularly to the church via planned monthly giving which can also be Gift Aided if you are a UK taxpayer – forms are available at the back of the church.

X PLEASE PRAY FOR THE REPOSE OF THE SOUL of Myriam Myland, who died on 29th June, and of all those whose anniversaries fall at this time, including amongst them: Grace Coughlan (3rd July); Brigitte Crofts, Henry McGlone, David Esdaile, Ida Newton (4th July); Julia Kinchin, Pabala Ranasinghe, Cas Taylor (5th July); Helen Brickell (6th July); Florinda Howard, Violet Kemp, Joyce Donnachie, Catherine Cobb (7th July); Helen Welch, Kathleen Neale, Cecil Prior, Frederick Bush (8th July);  Barbara Burgess, Christopher Durban, Maurice Donley, Colin Kendall (10th July).

X PASTORAL CARE OF SICK AND HOUSEBOUND PARISHIONERS – restrictions on home visits to the sick and housebound have now been removed and the Parish has resumed home visits to those who need them. Anyone who is sick or housebound, or of you know of anyone who is in this category, are encouraged to contact the Parish Office with their details and their Pastoral Care will be organised.

For GDPR reasons, the Parish has a policy of only accepting requests that come in from the person concerned or their next of kin only.

Any third party needs to present a written permission from the person concerned for such requests to be considered. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

X SNAPPY HAPPY SUMMER CLUB ON FIRST FOUR TUESDAYS IN AUGUST –  the Parish Pastoral and Social Committee have agreed to arrange a Summer Club in the Parish for children aged 5 to 14 years old taking place from 10.00am until 4.00pm on the first four Tuesdays of August at St Joseph’s Hall.

It will be led by parish volunteers who are fully DBS checked and it will include lunch, snacks and many activities including dancing, music, singing, crafts, cooking, gardening, writing, games, basic first aid training, films and more.  Best of all, it will be free!

Forms will be available from next weekend in the church for children to be registered for any of the available dates on a first come first served basis. More information will be published in the coming weeks once it is available.
