Programme:

10.00am        gather in church for Mass

11.00            coffee in church hall

11.15            opening liturgy

11.25            reflection on Gospels, discussion

1.45             closing liturgy

2.15             depart

It is designed to give participants:

·         The opportunity to study and reflect on one of the four Advent Sunday Gospels

·         To encourage participants to reflect on how, in the light of the Advent Gospels, they may plan for, and live, a spiritually meaningful Advent

·         To share thoughts and insights with other groups

For further information, please speak to John Philpott, Karen Ingelbrecht, Annie Homsey or Liz Willis.

X THE POPE’S PRAYER INTENTION FOR NOVEMBER 2022 IS FOR CHILDREN WHO SUFFER. “We pray for children who are suffering, especially those who are homeless, orphans, and victims of war; may they be guaranteed access to education and the opportunity to experience family affection.”

X ADVENT WREATH-MAKING WORKSHOP ON SATURDAY 26TH NOVEMBER AT ST JOSEPH’S CHURCH HALL FROM 2.00PM UNTIL 4.00PM.

Thinking of doing something special for Advent as a family?  We’ve got it here: the Advent wreath-making workshop.  Advent is a time of expectation and hope that reminds us why Jesus came into the world.  The Advent wreath commemorates Jesus’ birth and is a fun family activity that brings the community together and helps us to remember why we celebrate Christmas.

From next week, you are invited to register your interest in taking part by signing up for the workshop on sign-up sheets at OLHoC, St. Joseph, or Stella Maris Primary. This event is designed for the whole family.

X NOVEMBER ENVELOPES FOR THE DEPARTED ARE NOW AVAILABLE AT THE BACK OF CHURCH. November is the Month of the Holy Souls, and so throughout the month we continue to keep in our liturgical prayer those special people, particular to us, who have died.

A plenary indulgence, applicable only to Holy Souls, may be gained once in any church either on All Souls’ Day, on the preceding or following Sunday or on the Feast of All Saints, on the usual conditions, viz a visit to a church, where Our Father and Creed are recited, sacramental confession, Holy Communion and prayer for the Holy Father’s intention.

X CHILDREN’S LITURGY AT 11AM MASS - every Sunday starting 27th November 2022.  The children will be invited by Fr Alex, at the appropriate time, to accompany the Catechists to the Hall for their liturgy. They will take part in religious activities designed specifically for children.

All children of any age up to the age of 8 are invited. A parent or guardian must accompany children below 5 years. The liturgy will last for 25 minutes, and they will rejoin their parents in the Church for the rest of the Mass.

X  SECOND COLLECTIONS – this Sunday there will be a second collection for the Archbishop’s Appeal. This collection seeks to invest faith, hope, love and charity into three areas of mission and ministry in our Diocese.

Next Sunday is Youth Sunday and the second collection is to support Youth Work in the Diocese and beyond, especially the Southwark Catholic Youth Service (SCYS).

Last Sunday’s second collection for ‘Fixing the Heating’ raised a total of £407.91. Thank you for your generosity.

X  OCTOBER ACCOUNTS Last month we received offertory (including Standing orders and Gift Aid) of £4,658.30. Our total income was £12,512.59 including donations and our expenditure was £12,206.09, a surplus of £306.50. Thank you for your generosity in supporting the work of our parish.

X SPECIAL MASS OF THANKSGIVING FOR CHILDREN WHO CELEBRATED FIRST HOLY COMMUNION at Our Lady, Help of Christians, next Sunday, 20th November at 11.00am. All the children who celebrated First Holy Communion, and their families, are invited to this special thanksgiving Mass and are encouraged to wear their First Holy Communion Dress for a final group photo. All the children are requested to practice the hymn, ‘Lord Jesus Christ, you have come to us’ for the thanksgiving.

The UCM are organising a little celebration to be held in the Parish Hall after Mass.

X BEACON PLUS COMMUNITY CAFE – this week we welcome the Beacon Plus Community Café which will be based in the OLHoC Hall from 9.30am to 2.30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

The project is for 19-25 year olds to gain valuable work experience whilst offering an affordable option for local residents to meet up and have a drink and something to eat. It is a fantastic learning opportunity for the learners as this is their business, overseen by a full time member of staff.

Why not pop along after Mass or call in on your way to or from town and support this fantastic community project.

X PLEASE PRAY FOR THE REPOSE OF THE SOULS of Ann Patricia Wilson and Peter Fowler who died recently and for all  those whose anniversaries fall at this time, including amongst them: David Jones, Margaret Peace, Mavis Christie (13th Nov); Thomas Gibson, Eileen Flynn, Marcel Brun (14th Nov); Mother John Ogilvie, Margaret Barber (15th Nov); Patricia Relen, Ethel Hodson, Winifred Goodchild (16th Nov); Agnes Richardson (17th Nov); Austin Maguire, Basil Deba (18th Nov); Joseph Carney (19th Nov); Queenie Bailey, Peter Foster, Hilda Cave (20th Nov); Lucienne Langley (21st Nov).
